I was visiting my sister in Maryland and we decided to have lunch here on our way out of town. There some pros and cons here and I'll try to be honest here so here goes... First, as you walk in the door you are hit with a strong mildew smell. If I wasn't going with my family I would have turned around and tried to find somewhere else to eat. As you walk on into the hostess area you are greeted by one of the servers and stared down by every local regular in the place. Felt a little creeped out, to tell you the truth. The decor in the place is crying out for renovation. Plastic plants and chickens on the walls aren't exactly comforting. The floor felt gritty and the table wasn't exactly clean, felt something sticky on it. Service was slow. The waitress was very nice but, there seemed to be long durations of time where she wasn't anywhere to be seen. While we were waiting for our food someone was vacuuming or using a shop vac to clean a Buffett table. Usually, I wouldn't mind, but this went on for a long time and we felt as though we had to yell to communicate with each other. Now, the shining star...the food! I ordered the fried chicken dinner with two sides. The chicken was tender, juicy and flavorful. I also asked for mashed potatoes with gravy and a side of cole slaw. I enjoyed both equally. My mother ordered a seafood platter with scallops, shrimp and a nice piece of haddock, all was seasoned well and delicious. My other family members also enjoyed the food they ordered as well. In summation, I would say the next time I'm in town, I'll order the food for take-out if there's an option for that, I'd love to have that fried chicken again, but the dining experience needs improvement. Nothing that can't be improved.

Local man had a diabetic episode as I ate my President's Day brunch with friends. Paramedics calmly carted him off as I sipped my coffee and shoveled country fried steak, eggs, 3 pancakes, gravy, and biscuits into my fat face. Actually, I'm not fat, I'm half the weight of the average diner here. $8 for 3000 calories? Now that's a deal. Coffee is decent. Walls are posted with very... robust looking people. The diner is filled with.. well, robust people. I actually relished the stares of the locals as my Asian face (with Asian friend, and Caucasian friend) took our seats, and also while exiting the restaurant. Awkwardness trumps ambiance every time. So, my point is, if you eat here enough, you will take up one side of the booth yourself, lose vision in one of your eyes (lady behind me), and have a diabetic episode in the middle of the restaurant, and have a photo of your rotund form plastered on the wall for the ages. Play video keno to help cover your triple bypass surgery. Service... we got the wrong order, and had to wave our arms a few times to get the check, even after our plates were taken, but otherwise, adequate. Can't give 2 stars, or else they won't welcome Asians anymore. :) Just kidding.

0 stars can I give it that? This place hands down suuuuuucks! Do not eat here do not go here do not pass go and do not collect $200 dollars. The food is terrible and the service is usually just as bad. If you do eat here remember that you are pretty much eating jail food since all of the cooks are from the halfway house off of Oaks Rd. Recommendation: Go to the grocery store and get a TV dinner. Or Have 7 drinks at the bar before dinner then you won't care how bad the food is.

Went to eat at this place on a Saturday at lunch time. Parking lot was packed so we were hopeful. They had a breakfast buffet set up...which looked like there was quite a bit to choose from, even though we were coming into the end of it. One person from our group ordered a breakfast omelet and it looked pretty good and she said it was pretty good. The rest of ordered lunch. Two of us ordered the fried rockfish platter...it was ok...just not much flavor. The breading on the fish was kind of thick and slightly greasy for my liking. The other person in our party got their Reuben...and said it was just ok. We all agreed The fries were just so so. If I go back, I would go for breakfast instead of lunch and maybe try the breakfast buffet.

They have terrible service and the food is the worst! Breakfast bar has cold food and powdered eggs!!!

Years ago it was the best place around for. miles. Not anymore. I think they have changed owners numerous times over the years and the place seems to have suffered from it. The service anymore is one of the worst in St. Mary's. The waitresses seem to be older women for the most part but don't go thinking that mean the have more experience. We really tried to stick with them because they are the only ones in Mechanicsville/Charlotte Hall tha serves breakfast. After a half dozen times of very lousy service and mediocre food we gave up. We no longer go to The Landing. Maybe someday they will regain their former glory.

This place was just OK. First of all - it is most definitely not pretty to look at. The atmosphere is what I can only describe as "redneck" or "trashy." In a way, it's kind of cool because it reminds me of grandmas house, but it is also a bit unsettling because it makes you wonder if the place is really clean. It certainly doesn't look that way. The walls are absolutely covered with framed pictures of old people (uh what?) and I'd be afraid to see how dusty those frames probably are. So, I give the atmosphere a 1. As for the service - we were ignored when we walked through the door because the hostess lady was on the telephone, by the context of the conversation it seemed it was a personal phone call, which was a bit rude. The waitress was rather friendly, but was much too hands-off, and we both sat with empty drinks for more than 15 minutes. Unacceptable. The only somewhat redeeming quality about this place was the food, which was slightly better than average. Both my fiance and I got the chicken tenders basket. The chicken was definitely juicy, and tasted good, but it was also kind of chewy. The fries were awesome, and my fiance says the cole slaw was very good. I also had some mac n cheese which was definitely delicious. The ranch dressing served with the chicken tenders was home made and also very good. That's the only reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars. The food is nice and definitely has that "home made" quality. Everything else pretty much sucked.

After many years of passing this usually-packed restuarant on the road, I figured I'd give it a try. I assumed that since it always seemed busy, it must be pretty good. Nah. It's just that there aren't many other sit-down choices within a 10 mile radius. I went on St Pat's day - got corned beef and cabbage/potatoes. Blah. Nothing special, no spice to it, needed salt, pepper and butter to make it even ok. But even my mom makes this dish much better, I expected more from a restaurant. My hubby asked the waiter what their specialty was, he replied fried chicken and oysters. He got the fried chicken with 2 sides, green beans and beets. Yes, beets. The chicken was good enough, tasty, but still lacked something SPECIAL. The green beans and beets were right out of a can. Sigh. This was one of those meals where I was sad I didn't just cook it myself, and didn't pay money for. I did not have a bad experience, but if a restaurant is going to ask me to pay money for food, at least make it stand out. Sorry, won't be back, I'd rather pay 4 bucks for Burger King across the street - at least my tastebuds will be happy.

Go ahead waste your money time and Tums.Veal lunch from the freezer section of SAMs club. Not really even food. Don't let the crowded parking lot fool you. Plenty of oblivious people around.

Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday. They have a weekend breakfast buffet that we all decided to try. The consensus was that the food and presentation was at or slightly above what you would normally find at the free buffet with your hotel room at an inexpensive chain. I believe the scrambled eggs were powdered. If not, then they worked hard to make sure they had the same appearance and texture as powdered eggs. The bacon was extra thin and extra greasy. They had something that was supposed to be corned beef hash, but it was only slightly heated and not fried crispy, with an appearance of cheap dog food. Yuck. I think if all you want is to fill your gut with something, the price and quantity is right. If you want good coffee, they did have that. Service was very poor to nonexistent, but it seemed that our waiter had tables all over the restaurant and only passed by us once before showing up with the bill. We had a party of 4, two from the local area and it was unanimous that this was a "one and done" visit. Again, this was only the breakfast buffet so maybe they excel at other things. We'll wait for some one else to give it a go before we try it again.

This place is a hazard to your health- in more ways than one. Moldy bread served to customers, infested with cockroaches, and layered with dirt and the remnants of years of cigarette smoke. I live in the county and have eaten here twice- the second time hoping it was just a bad day. WRONG! The customer service is as nonexistent as the quality. Please save your health and your money and go some place else!

NO, JUST NO. Do yourself a favor...stay in the car and drive further south into St. Mary's County or head to Solomons. Now pick ANY restaurant there and you've already done better than this place.

Nice little local spot. I like the hamburger steak! It seems to be a long time family owned spot. They have pics all over the walls of im assuming local regulars and maybe family. Whenever I'm in the area I stop by. My girl friend grew up around here and she brought me here for the first time.

Amount of food, for the money, 5 stars. Taste of food, for the money, 4 stars. Attentive waitresses, 3 stars. Atmosphere, 2 stars. Cleanliness, 1 star. St. Mary's Landing needs a scrub down, paint job and overhaul. It is a dive. But, I do not mind it being a bit of a dive since the food is good, especially for the money. You can fill your belly here for cheap! I had not visited St. Mary's Landing for probably close to 20 years (long ago experiences were not so good). We have been, recently, hitting The Landing for lunch or dinner once a week, for the past month or so, since it is so close to home and work. The first couple times in the restaurant, it was kind of hard to keep our appetites while waiting for our food, due to the horrible atmosphere and the incredibly dirty appearance. But we hung in there. I guess the appearance and atmosphere have grown on us because we know the food will be decent, and we can now get past the dirt and grime. From sticky menus to crunchy and dirty floors, St. Mary's Landing has it all! We have eaten the ham and cabbage special (good), prime rib (good), meatloaf (not great), steak sandwich (good), stuffed ham (good), fried chicken (good)... I love their coleslaw. It is all a good value for the money spent. McDonalds lunch costs more than a homestyle meal at St. Mary's Landing.

Unless your going here to Booze it up. . . Stay away. The staff is friendly but the "regulars" make it pretty uncomfortable to go here. Im talkin' every man, woman and child turn towards the door and just stares in silence. Awkward!!! Think Ill just drink at home.
